This huge mobile overhead crane travels along long rows of containers lined up along the wharves. Receiving orders by radio or computer from the yard dispatch center, they service hundreds of trucks every day. They take loaded containers coming in, empties being returned. They hand out empties to be sent to factories or warehouses for loading. They send out loaded containers which have arrived from all over the world. As you can see, this sort of arrangement not only makes cargo handling much easier, it eliminates the need for warehousing the freight at the dock. The container itself is its own warehouse.
